My father Ármin Zelkovits was a Jewish cantor, and my mother was Mária Herskovits. I never finished any school, but my poems were highly esteemed by poets Miklós Radnóti and Attila József. I survived the war in forced labour, then I took part in the ’56 revolution and was imprisoned for it, but the Hungarian public still keeps my poems in their hearts.
