I was born in the village of Motal in Belarus, to a family of well-to-do timber merchants. As a famous chemist, I was a member of the Zionist movement. From 1949 to 1952, I was the first president of the State of Israel. The industrial production of acetone, a method devised by me, provided a strategic advantage to Great Britain during World War I.
