I was born in Budapest by the name of György Bischitz, to a well-to-do Jewish family that later received a noble title. My father’s ancestry came to Hungary from Moravia; on my mother’s side, I am the descendant of the Jewish baron family Schossberger of Tornya. In 1943, I was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for researching the application of isotope tracers.
